Patients Travel to See Dr. Bob for a Variety of Procedures
Revolutionary Metal-Free Ghost Surgery System
Dr. Baravarian is a pioneer in metal-free surgical techniques using the advanced Ghost Surgery System. Unlike traditional surgery that leaves permanent metal screws and plates in your body, the Ghost System uses biocompatible fiber materials that gradually integrate with your natural bone over approximately two years, eventually becoming indistinguishable from your own bone structure, as if no hardware was ever used.
Benefits of metal-free surgery include:
- Faster recovery (often 4-6 weeks vs. 8-12 weeks)
- Stronger, more natural healing as the materials actually become part of your bone structure.
- No risk of hardware loosening or backing out
- No need for second surgeries to remove problematic implants
- No airport metal detector concerns
- No temperature sensitivity issues
Revision/Failed Previous Surgery
Many of our out-of-town patients contact us after an unsuccessful prior surgery. Dr. Bob has performed over 1,000 revision surgeries and has one of the highest success rates in the country. He specializes in correcting failed procedures and getting patients back to optimal function.
Bunion Surgery
Dr. Bob has performed thousands of bunion surgeries and has developed techniques that can allow for immediate weight-bearing. He has pioneered procedures that reduce recovery time and utilize plastic surgery techniques that allow for minimal or no scarring. Metal-free options are available for most bunion corrections.
Reconstructive Tendon Surgery
Dr. Bob is a nationally recognized leader in the treatment of chronic ankle instability and tendon repair surgery. He has performed thousands of tendon repair surgeries and revolutionized surgical techniques, resulting in stronger tendons, reduced scarring, and quicker recovery. Metal-free anchor systems are used for optimal healing.
Flat Foot Reconstruction
We are among the leaders in the understanding and treatment of the symptomatic flat foot. Dr. Bob assisted in the design of many procedures and products used in flat foot surgery and is able to provide the latest treatment options available, including metal-free reconstruction techniques.

Our fly-in program FAQs
How soon can I return home post-surgery?
Depending on the extent of the procedure, patients may return home after 5 days. Transatlantic patients can fly 14 days following surgery. Metal-free procedures often allow for faster recovery times.
Do I need to come back for follow-up care?
We will coordinate care with your local doctor so you can receive follow-up care (suture removal and X-rays) close to home. However, depending on the type of surgery performed, we may request that you return to our office for a follow-up appointment.
What is the closest airport?
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is the closest major airport, located approximately 14 miles from our clinic. Travel time typically ranges from 30 to 60 minutes, depending on traffic. Our team can also coordinate car service or transportation to ensure a smooth arrival and departure.
Once in Los Angeles, how will I get around?
There are several transportation options in the area, including Uber and Lyft, or we can coordinate a car service for you.
Where should I stay during my recovery?
We can recommend nearby hotels and extended-stay accommodations that are convenient to our office and comfortable for post-surgical recovery.
Will I need someone to travel with me?
For most surgical procedures, we recommend traveling with a friend or family member who can assist you during the first few days after surgery.
Will I be able to walk after surgery?
Many of our procedures allow for immediate or early weight-bearing in a protective boot, but this depends on the specific surgery performed. We will provide personalized instructions.
What should I bring with me for surgery?
We’ll provide a detailed checklist before your trip, including comfortable clothing, medications, and any required medical records or imaging.
