A Good Faith Estimate (GFE) is a document that outlines the expected costs of medical services for self-pay or uninsured patients. Mandated by the No Surprises Act, which went into effect on January 1, 2022, the GFE aims to prevent unexpected medical bills by providing transparency regarding healthcare expenses. Patients receive a Good Faith Estimate from their healthcare provider, such as Dr. Bob Baravarian's practice, before receiving non-emergency services. This allows individuals to understand and plan for their financial responsibility for scheduled care.
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs such as medical tests, examinations, office visits, prescription drugs, and equipment (items or services reasonably expected to be provided by this practice).
Ensure your healthcare provider provides you with a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least one business day prior to your medical service or item. You can also ask your healthcare provider, as well as any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before scheduling an item or service.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
